When a person decides to start a business they tend to think “What do I want to achieve”, but then rarely stop and take stock of the achievements they accomplish as they are happening. This part of the process is just as important as the initial vision setting because it can help you align what you wanted to achieve, with where you are now, and then where you want to continue going in the future. Here at Accounting Connections the team and I recently sat down to do just that.
We focused our discussions in the following areas:
Our “why”
It’s important to recognise that the reason for starting your business at the beginning of your journey might not be the reason that you still continue to run your business now. However, it’s also important to take time to remind yourself of what that initial reason was, and whether it’s still relevant.
I started this business because I wanted to give small business owners a great service at a reasonable price, whilst building a legacy for my children’s future. That reason why makes this company much more to me than simply a business venture….it’s personal.
Our Mission
Our mission is to help as many small business owners as possible achieve their personal and business goals. This mission is very much at the heart of what we do at Accounting Connections, and the whole team are heavily invested in this vision. We want to be the go-to accountants in Medway for small business owners, and we believe that we are well on our way to being just that. Over the nearly 9 years that we’ve been in business we have helped hundreds of small businesses in Medway succeed in their aspirations.
Our Values
This topic of conversation dominated our discussions because we needed to determine whether our core values still represent us as a company, and whether the whole team are doing what they can to uphold these values every day. Our three core values are “reliable, friendly and current”. After discussing each one in length it was easy to see that we do indeed uphold those core values on a daily basis, which means that they definitely do still accurately represent us as a company, and as accountants.
The Future
Over the past year we have seen some staff changes which have caused some disruption in the team, but we are all now focused on solidifying our roles and responsibilities in order to continue forward and give our clients the very best service we possibly can.
This session was vitally important for us as a team to ensure that we are all “rowing the boat in the same direction” so to speak, and to really align everyone’s vision to why we do what we do, and where we want to go. If it’s been a while since you’ve done such a task with your own teams then I would highly recommend it. You never know, your employees could have some brilliant insights and amazing ideas to help your business flourish even more.
Until next time readers….stay connected 😉
